It’s 2020, and at the rate this year has been going, it is definitely 5 o’clock somewhere!
Break out the tequila, lime, and salt…and make your own margarita body scrub!
Just when you though margaritas couldn’t get any better, now you have another reason to make a batch of this cocktail. Create your own summer themed spa day or mix up a bit of this scrub just for fun! It can also make for a great gift or party favor.
Margarita Body Scrub Recipe
- 2 tablespoons of tequila
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- ½ cup of salt
- 1 lime
Directions: Mix the tequila, olive oil, and salt together in a bowl. Cut the lime in half and squeeze the juice of each half into the bowl. Discard the lime—or save it to garnish an actual margarita! Your mixture should be paste-like in consistency. Add more olive oil if needed to reach desired consistency.
Once ready, store in an airtight jar until ready to use!
To Use: Rub the scrub over your skin (we recommend while in the shower to reduce the chance of making a mess) then rinse clean. That’s it!
How It Helps: Both tequila and lime are natural antiseptics, so they work great to fight against bacteria on your skin surface. Salt helps to exfoliate while the olive oil helps to moisturize the freshly scrubbed skin.
After Care: As with any skin care regime, you should always be cautious when spending the day in the sun following any type of exfoliation. Exfoliation works to remove the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, leaving behind a fresh new layer of skin that could be more sensitive to the elements, especially sunlight and UV rays. In addition, lime and other citrus fruits and their juices can cause phytophotodermatitis—a mild skin rash, inflammation, or burn caused when the juice interacts with the sunlight. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the margarita scrub from your skin and apply sunscreen before going out in the sun.
